BINTULU (Oct 29) The inspirational journey of Ashley Lau Jen Wen has brought pride to Bintulu after the young golfer competed in the recent Paris Olympic Games. The 24-year-old from Bintulu made history as the first Sarawakian golfer to qualify by merit for the Olympics.
“She stands as a symbol of what is possible when dedication meets opportunity.
“From her days of playing at our local courses here to competing on the world stage, she exemplifies the very best of Bintulu.
“Let Ashley’s journey inspire all of us today,” said Tanjung Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang at the closing ceremony of the 28th Bintulu Amateur Open Championships for the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) challenge trophy on Sunday.
He also commended the state government for approving a budget of RM21.8 million for the reconstruction of facilities at Kelab Golf Bintulu (KGB).
“This funding will allow us to build a state-of-the-art three-story clubhouse and a double-story driving range that will elevate our club to new heights.
“This development isn’t just about infrastructure, it’s about creating a place where golfers of all levels can come together, improve their game, and enjoy the best amenities Bintulu has to offer,” said Pang who is also KGB president.
He added that last weekend’s tournament, which was organised in collaboration with BDA, has grown to become a significant platform for golfers from across the region to showcase love for the sport.
